Do you want to make a difference in the lives of others? Do you want to work with like-minded professionals in a great team?

Rees seeks to support those who have, at some stage in their lives, been in foster care or residential care, including those with custodial experience. The charity understands the importance of having a lifelong support network. Our aim is to help care experienced people thrive in all aspects of their lives at any age. We seek to listen; and offer help and advice about any aspect they may have.

Purpose of the Role

As a Youth Worker at Rees Foundation, you will play a key role in supporting care-experienced young people to build resilience, develop life skills, and feel connected. You’ll deliver individual and group-based support, co-create opportunities with young people, and act as a trusted adult in their lives — someone who listens, encourages, and empowers.

Key Responsibilities
• Build meaningful, trusted relationships with care-experienced people, predominately under 25 years.
• Encouraging older care experienced people to link in and support younger care experienced.
• Provide and facilitating group sessions to discuss wellbeing, independence, and personal development.
• Plan and deliver group activities, workshops, and events that promote connection, learning, and fun.
• Support young people to access services, opportunities, and resources — including education, training, housing, mental health, and employment.
• Advocate for young people’s rights and ensure their voices are heard.
• Work collaboratively with other Rees staff, local authorities, and external agencies to create strong support networks.
• Record and monitor support sessions and outcomes using appropriate systems and tools.
• Contribute to safeguarding procedures, ensuring young people’s safety and wellbeing at all times.
• Attend team meetings, training, and reflective practice sessions as required.

Person Specification

Essential:
• Experience of working with young people, ideally those with care experience or from similar backgrounds.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills — able to build rapport and trust.
• Strong understanding of the challenges faced by care-experienced individuals.
• A non-judgmental, trauma-informed, and strengths-based approach.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a supportive team.
• Willingness to work flexibly, including occasional evenings and weekends.
• Commitment to safeguarding and equality, diversity and inclusion.

Desirable:

· Relevant qualification in youth work, social care, education, or a related field.

· Lived experience of the care system.

· Knowledge of the care sector and support services across the UK.

· Driving licence and access to a vehicle (if travel is required for the role).

· Experience in community engagement, outreach, or a similar role.

· Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to connect with

care leavers and understand their needs.

· Empathetic and supportive, with a genuine desire to help care leavers improve

their lives.

· Organised and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and follow

through on commitments.

What We Offer
• A warm, inclusive working culture that values your voice
• Ongoing training, development, and reflective practice
• The opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of care-experienced people

Application Process

Interested candidates are invited to submit their CV and a cover letter outlining their suitability for the role. We welcome applications from everyone, but as part of our commitment to improving opportunities for care-experienced people, we particularly encourage applications from those with lived experience of care. While all applications will be considered on merit, preference may be given to candidates with care experience where they meet the essential criteria.
