My home is an eco-home in the ‘athletes village’ here in Dalmarnock, East Glasgow, which was built just 10 years ago for the Commonwealth Games here. It is a 9 minute train ride into the city centre or 15 min bus ride, or 20 min cycle ride on a safe cycle/pedestrian only path to the city that goes along the river and through Glasgow Green! I have a private parking space, though I will have my car there, so you should be able to park in the visitors parking spaces if you need to – these are usually free except when Celtic football club are playing as their stadium is nearby. My flat is ground floor, unusually for a flat I have both my own front door and my own back door which leads onto my private balcony/garden space. The flat is full of light because of the patio door and floor to ceiling windows, yet feels very private as it looks out onto the trees, river and park rather than into anyone’s windows. There is no gas in the properties as our hot water comes from a community district heating model and comes in from underground pipes, I think from the heat from incinerating waste – it is run by Glasgow City Council. We also have solar panels on all our roofs. So the cooker is electric. There is no bath, just a shower. I don’t own a TV but you are welcome to use the wifi and bring a device to watch your favourite shows.
