Adult & Young Person’s Support Worker
Hours: 28 hrs p.w.
Pay: £28,650 FTE (£15.31/hr)
Fixed term: 12 months
Location: Kirkwall, Orkney
Closing date: 31 March 2025 5pm
We are a local charity based in Orkney, and a member of the Relationships Scotland network.
We are looking for a Support Worker to join our busy Family Support Team. The main purpose of the role is to provide practical and emotional support to develop the client’s capacity to manage their own difficulties and move forward. Where appropriate the client may also be referred on to other services we offer, or to external services.
The Support Worker will meet with adults and young people (12 years and above) one-to-one, to help them find coping strategies and alternative ways to deal with relationship and emotional difficulties (e.g. anxiety, low self-esteem, low mood, loss/bereavement) and parenting challenges.
The Support Worker will help the client to identify their goals, and develop a flexible support plan with them, which is regularly reviewed. The support plan may involve weekly, two weekly or monthly sessions depending on the client’s needs; these may be attended in person, online or by phone.
The Support Worker will be part of our multi-disciplinary team, which will include participating in team meetings, training and other joint activities.
Candidates for this role will need to have relevant skills and training:
•a relevant SCQF level 7 or above qualification e.g. in Social Services and Healthcare, Social Services (Children & Young People), Psychology and
•a COSCA Counselling Skills Certificate or a Counselling Certificate (HNC).
They will need to have experience of working directly with adults/young people and to have experience/understanding of how relationship breakdown and a range of emotional difficulties such as anxiety, low mood, loss/bereavement can impact individual wellbeing. Candidates will need to demonstrate advanced communication skills, empathy and a non-judgmental attitude, and to be flexible and proactive in their approach.
This contract is for 12 months. There may be an option to extend dependent on future funding.
