SEN Teaching Assistant Role Overview

Category Details
Purpose Support a student with complex medical and educational needs and assist the department in providing targeted SEN learning.
Key Responsibilities Support students with routines, behaviour, transitions, and learning plans. Assist with individual Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs). Provide feedback on progress.
Teaching & Learning Help plan and deliver differentiated activities, support curriculum delivery, maintain discipline, and supervise classes when needed.
Communication Work closely with SENDCO, teachers, parents/carers, and professionals to share student progress and support plans.
Professional Development Keep knowledge up-to-date, reflect on practice, engage in training, and participate in appraisal processes.
Safeguarding Follow statutory safeguarding guidelines, promote student safety, and adhere to school policies.
Skills Needed Patience, adaptability, strong communication, empathy, behaviour management, IT literacy, teamwork, and willingness to learn.
Working Conditions School environment, supporting students both in and out of the classroom, flexible and collaborative role.
