Position Overview:
We are looking for an experienced Bookkeeper to manage our day-to-day accounting and finance requirements, ensuring they are accurate and up to date. The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of accounting principles, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to work independently. This position will be for a group of companies run from our head office based in Nottingham. The role will require excellent communication to manage supplier contracts, expenses and all day-to-day finance functions.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable functions.
2. Check daily bank transactions.
3. Process all invoices in the correct companies using OCR scanning technology integrating with the finance software.
4. Process all payments in a timely manner, managing cash flow requirements.
5. Reconcile bank statements and credit card transactions, making sure every transaction has supporting documentation.
6. Prepare monthly financial statements, including profit and loss, balance sheet, and cash flow statements.
7. Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records using cloud-based accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Xero).
8. Reconcile intercompany balances and cross charge group companies where required.
9. Reconcile balance sheet accounts, including prepayments and accrual accounts.
10. Assist with annual budgeting and forecasting processes.
11. Managing the appropriate approvals for invoices and supplier service contracts.
12. Prepare VAT returns and upload to HMRC, reconciling returns to the balance sheet, ensuring compliance with HMRC regulations.
13. Preparation of monthly management accounts.
14. Communicate effectively with clients, vendors, and internal stakeholders regarding financial matters.
15. Provide support to the external accountants for year-end filing, audits and financial reviews.
16. Provide holiday or sickness cover in the office as required and for your line manager.
17. Preparation and management of payroll submission and payments.
18. Liaising with the company accountants and providing information to them as required.
19. Any other admin duties requested by your line manager and Directors.
Skills Required:
1. Proficiency in Excel and cloud accounting software, ideally Xero would be advantageous.
2. Strong understanding of accounting principles and practices.
3. Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in financial record-keeping.
4. Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks simultaneously in order to meet deadlines.
5. Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
6. Familiarity with accounting principles, HMRC rules and accrual-based accounting.
7. A friendly proactive and adaptable approach to problem-solving.
8. Strong IT skills to manage multiple integrated cloud-based software, supporting a paperless office.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: £16.00-£18.00 per hour
Expected hours: 15 – 20 per week
